FUNAAB Emerges Best University of Agriculture In Africa

In the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (WUR), the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), claims top honors as Africa’s best University of Agriculture, securing the 7th position globally.

The 2024 World University Rankings (WUR) employed the updated 3.0 methodology, assessing 2,671 submissions from 1,906 universities spanning 108 countries and regions.

This approach encompassed 18 precisely calibrated performance indicators, evaluating institutions across five crucial domains: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook.

The ranking process involved the analysis of over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications and incorporated survey responses from 68,402 scholars globally. In total, 411,789 data points were gathered from 2,673 institutions that submitted their data.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, extended congratulations to the entire University community for this inclusive achievement and called for further collaboration to achieve greater feats.

Notably, FUNAAB had previously secured the 2nd position in Nigeria in the 2023 Sub-Saharan Africa University rankings and was recognised as the best public university in Nigeria.

The credibility of the Times Higher Education Rankings, trusted worldwide by students, teachers, governments, and industry experts, was emphasised in light of the 2024 league table, which highlighted shifts in the global higher education landscape.

These indicators provided a comprehensive and nuanced assessment of each university’s strengths and contributions in the global academic landscape. The meticulous calibration aimed to offer a balanced evaluation, considering diverse aspects of academic performance and impact.

In the category of Teaching, universities were scrutinized for their dedication to imparting knowledge, fostering critical thinking, and engaging students effectively. The Research Environment assessment delved into the resources, infrastructure, and support systems in place to facilitate cutting-edge research and innovation.

Research Quality gauged the impact and significance of academic publications, recognizing the institutions at the forefront of advancing knowledge in various fields.
