Visitors to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in Southern California experienced a moment of disruption when 35 rides were temporarily closed due to a minor earthquake in the vicinity.

The quake, measuring 3.5 in magnitude, struck the city of Fullerton in Orange County, located approximately 2 miles from the parks, just after 8 p.m. on Monday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. A lighter aftershock occurred around 8:30 p.m., with more than 2,800 people reporting they felt the earthquake, as per USGS data.
Despite the quake’s proximity, neither theme park reported initial damage or injuries. However, inconveniences arose for guests eager to experience popular attractions such as Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Even holiday-themed versions of attractions like “It’s a Small World” and the new Adventureland Treehouse were temporarily shuttered.

By 9 p.m. on Monday night, the Disneyland app reported the closure of most attractions, with only the Jungle Cruise and the Mad Tea Party remaining open at Disneyland. At the adjacent California Adventure, the only operational attractions were Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl, and Mater’s Jingle Jamboree.
Popular Disney California Adventure rides, including the Incredicoaster, Toy Story Midway Mania, and Radiator Springs Racers in Cars Land, were temporarily unavailable.
Napa photographer Elise Delamare shared on their Instagram story, “3.5 Earthquake hits when we were in line at Winnie The Pooh and everything is down now. They are telling us after safety protocols are passed they’ll open them back up.”
As a safety precaution, employees evacuated guests from rides, as reported by the Orange County Register.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the majority of rides were operational, according to the app, although Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and the Jungle Cruise experienced temporary closures.
