A Day in the Life of the Senior Financial Accountant:                     

Accounting Operations

  • Ensure the smooth and real-time operation of Financial Reporting processes to enhance the timeliness of delivering precise financial information to Management and other stakeholders.
  • Lead reviews to maintain the integrity of the Balance sheet.
  • Establish and enforce robust internal controls and procedures to uphold the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Coordinate the implementation of enhancements to streamline accounting processes.
  • Oversee all Financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) within the finance and control function.
  • Manage the chart of accounts master data, assessment and allocation rules and tables, as well as standard general ledger balance sheet and profit and loss reports, and communicate any changes as necessary to markets/businesses and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
  • Conduct audits on treasury and cash management activities, including hedging and petty cash management.
  • Offer insightful financial analysis and recommendations, enabling management to make informed business decisions.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with other departments, contributing to the overall financial management strategy of the company.

Closing and Financial Reporting

  • Oversees the period-end close process, reviews account reconciliations, and ensures precise and punctual financial reporting.
  • Prepares and submits statutory reports and reports outside the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) scope, and reviews and submits final reports falling within the NBS scope.

Accounts Receivables

  • Oversee the reconciliation and clearance of accounts for all vendors with debit balances.
  • Conduct expected credit loss transactions and provide recommendations.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Collaborates with various departments to implement accounting recommendations for operational challenges, ensuring the preservation of accounting controls.
  • Guarantees adherence to market tax regulations.

Additional

  • Oversees all external audit-related activities about accounting.
  • Handles enhancements in the audit process concerning accounting.
  • Supervises dividend reconciliation with the company’s registrar.
  • Collaborates with Nestle Treasury to establish suitable banking and payment processing infrastructure to meet accounting goals.
  • Coordinates and assists with all tax and regulatory reporting obligations.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc./HND) in Finance or Accounting and must be a Chartered Accountant, such as ACA or ACCA.
  • They should have a minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on experience, with a considerable portion in a managerial capacity.
  • An in-depth understanding of accounting principles, standards (including IFRS and CAMA), and tax laws is essential.
  • Prior experience in financial reporting, management accounting, costing, and auditing within FMCG companies is obligatory.
